Govindghat is on the confluence of the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers, it is roughly 22 km from Joshimath on NH58 at an altitude of 6000 feet. The Gurudwara located on the right bank of river Alaknanda is the most important landmark in the area. It also provides accommodation to pilgrims. Govindghat is a big hit among tourists seeking tranquility and natural beauty. It is the right choice escape from the chaotic city life and spend some leisure time in the lap of nature.
It is the road-head and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. Located in the Bhundyar Ganga in Chamoil District, the valley is famous for its beautiful beds of flowers, that form an ethereal sight on the Joshimath- Badrinath Road. Hundreds of people, mostly Sikh pilgrims on way to the holy shrine of Hemkund Sahib and occasional tourists to the Valley of Flowers, arrive here every day. There are many Festival celebrated in Govindghat like Ramnavami and Dasserra Festival. Ramnavami Festival is marked with the birthday of Lord Rama and is celebrated in the Hindi month of Chaitra. Another Fesival Dasserra generally falls in the month of October or November and marks the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana.
Char Dham Yatra and Govindghat
Govindghat is another important places during Char Dham Yatra, which while visiting Badrinath. Govindghat has gate system which closes during the evening. Many Char Dham Pilgrims choose to halt at Govindghat. Tourists have the options of hiring a car or any other vehicle from Joshimath to Govindghat. The district of Govindghat also has immense religious and cultural importance. It is believed that Lord Hanuman found the Sanjeevani herb at this place which was used to restore the health of unconscious Laxman.

Hemkund Sahib : Hemkund Sahib is the place where the tenth Guru of the Sikhs (Guru Govind Singh) meditated here for many years. Located at an Average altitude of Hemkund Parvat is 4329 meters above the sea level. The Best time to visit this place is fall in between the month of July to November.
Vasundhara Waterfall : Vasundhara Waterfall is located only 5 Kms away from Govindghat. It is a very beautiful tourism place located in the vicinity of Chamoli district.
