About Anusuya Devi Temple is one of the famous holy temple of Uttarakhand which is located in Gopeshwar of Chamoli district. This temple is situated at an altitude of about 2000 meters from the sea level. Just imagine what a view that temple must have. It is among the most famous places in Chamoli district. It is dedicated to goddess Anusuya Mata. Devi Anusuya was the wife of a great sage Atri Muni. There is a grand statue of sati Anusuya that is established inside of the temple. There is also the statues of lord shiva, Mata Parvati and Ganesh ji in the premises of the temple. This temple is located 30 km away from Chopta. It is also located on the lap of Himalayas.

Anusuya Devi Temple Mythology

There was a belief that once goddess Parvati, Lakshmiji and Saraswati send their husbands Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh to take a strength test of Devi Anusuya. They then visited her at the ashram where Devi Anusuya offered them food. But they did not take the food served by her and put a condition on her that they will only accept that food if she will serve that food without wearing any clothes.

When Devi Anusuya heard that she got tensed and started to think how will she do that. Atlast, she closed her eyes and started thinking about her husband. Then suddenly she got an intuition that these sages were the gods and they were here to test her strength. Then goddess Anusuya transforms the three gods into infants and then she provide them with food without wearingany clothes. In this way the three gods became sons of Devi Anusuya.

Later on all the three gods started to live there as Devi Anusuya’s sons. When the three gods did not reach to the Parlok, the three goddess Parvati, Saraswathi and Lakshmiji apologized for their behaviour and requested Devi Anusuya to give their husbands back. Then after that she agreed and gave there husbands back and from then this place is known as Maa Sati Anusuya.

Atri Muni Ashram

The Atri Muni Ashram was located at a distance of 2 km from the temple. Atri Muni was husband of the goddess Anusuya. The ashram is carved in the form of a cave. This place is believed as the only holy place in the world where devotees circumambulate around a river as a mark of reverence.

Best Time To Visit Anusuya Devi Temple

You can visit this wonderful place throughout the year. But the best time to visit this place is between the months of October to April. In these months you can travel easily and you can enjoy the best. At the time of winters the weather here is very cold, also due to snowfall the temperature drops drastically and also in rainy season there are heavy rain and it is a bit difficult to travel because of landslides.
