Char Dham Yatra 2020


Prettily placed in the convergence of the majestic rivers Mandakini and Alaknanda, Rudraprayag is the holy abode of Lord Shiva. It is one of the Panch Prayag of Alaknanda River. Alaknanda then proceeds towards Devaprayag where it joins with Bhagirathi river to form the river Ganges. Rudraprayag District was established on 16th September1997. Internationally Known Shri Kedarnath Temple is at North, Madmaheshwar at east, Nagrasu at southern east and Shrinagar at extreme south. The holy Mandakini originated from Kedarnath is the main river of the district.

The popular belief among locals is that it was here that lord Shiva in his Rudra incarnation had appeared before Narada. Another folklore is that this is the same place where Sati took her rebirth after her tragic death. The glittering waters of the pretty rivers, and the dazzling snowy mountain peaks, engross a breath taking ambiance that allures not only the devotees but also the casual visitors.

Kedarnath is located 86 km from Rudraprayag most of the pilgrims take halt here during their char dham yatra. From Rudraprayag on can go to Badrinath via Joshimath by taking chamoli- Joshimath road.

Temples In Rudra Prayag

Rudranath Temple –  Rudraprayag is named after Lord Shiva and temple of lord Rudranath is situated at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini.
Chamunda Devi Temple – Chamunda Devi temple is also situated at confluence of the holy river, Chamunda as wife of Lord Rudra is worshiped there.
Shree Tungeshwar Mahadev Ji – This temple is there for centuries. According to Myths, Pandavas came here for penance. On way from Chopta there were many small temples on way to Tunganath Temple, the remains of some are still there.On the Temple wall there are many terracota style seals and Shiva Parvati figurines.
Koteshwar – Koti means crore and Ishwar means god. This is again a temple of Lord shiva made in Natural caves.

How to Reach

By Air : Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun is the nearest Airport Located around 183 km away from RudraPrayag District.

By Train : Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest Rail-head not connected by fast trains.  Haridwar Junction is , 24 km farther from Rishikesh connections to most of the major cities in India.
