Govindghat

Govindghat is on the confluence of the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers, it is roughly 22 km from Joshimath on NH58 at an altitude of 6000 feet. The Gurudwara located on the right bank of the river Alaknanda is the most important landmark in the area. It also provides accommodation to pilgrims. Govindghat is a big hit among tourists seeking tranquility and natural beauty. It is the right choice to escape from the chaotic city life and spends some leisure time in the lap of nature.

It is the road-head and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. Located in the Bhundyar Ganga in Chamoli District, the valley is famous for its beautiful beds of flowers, that form an ethereal sight on the Joshimath – Badrinath Road. Hundreds of people, mostly Sikh pilgrims on way to the holy shrine of Hemkund Sahib and occasional tourists to the Valley of Flowers, arrive here every day. There are many festivals celebrated in Govindghat like Ramnavami and Dasserra Festival. Ramnavami Festival is marked with the birthday of Lord Rama and is celebrated in the Hindi month of Chaitra. Another Festival Dasserra generally falls in the month of October or November and marks the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana.

  • Valley of flower: Valley of the flower is a national park that covers 87.5o sq km area in the Himalayan mountain region. Valley of flowers has 500 different wild species, where other many things are to explore. the valley is covered by colorful wildflowers from June to October
  • Ghangaria : Ghangaria is located 13 km away from Govindghat. Ghangaria is an idealistic destination for trekking. It is the commencement pint to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. The best time to Visit Ghangaria is to fall in between the month of May to October.
  • Hemkund Sahib: Hemkund Sahib is the place where the tenth Guru of the Sikhs (Guru Govind Singh) meditated here for many years. Located at an average altitude of Hemkund Parvat is 4329 meters above sea level. The Best time to visit this place is to fall between the month of July to November.
  • Vasundhara Waterfall: Vasundhara Waterfall is located only 5 km away from Govindghat. It is a very beautiful tourism place located in the vicinity of the Chamoli district.
