History of Baijnath Temple

Baijnath temple was constructed by the Kumaon Katyuri king in the name of Vaidyanath Shiva, made around 1150 A.D. this temple was later came to be known as Baijnath. This temple is counted as one of the shiva temples where Lord shiva and Parvati can be seen together.

This temple features Ganesha, Shiva, Parvati, Karttikeya, Narsimha, Brahma, Chandika, Kuber, Saptnartikas, Surya and Garudas deities other that Lord Shiva.

There is an interesting fact about this temple, it was believed that this temple of Baijnath have been built in just one day. There is a fish pond outside the temple ‘Golden Mahaseer’.

According to the legends it was believed that Lord Shiva and Parvati were married at the confluence of Gomti river and Garur Ganga. The temple ia dedicated to lord Shiva Vidyanatha, the lord of physicians. Legends also has that this temple was built by a Brahmin woman and dedicated to lord shiva.
