Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple is situated in a beautiful place with heavenly view. This temple is situated in Bhimtal in Nainital district, Uttarakhand. It is an old Shiv temple located in the banks of Bhimtal lake. This temple got its name after the powerful Mahabharata character Bhim. According to the Skand Purana, once upon a time Bheem travelled to Himalayas all by himself.
It is believed that this temple was constructed or renovated around 17th century by the Baz Bahadur. He was the king of the Chand Dynasty. It was also believed that the Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple being situated in Nainital district is actually much older than the place itself.
The architecture of this temple is also simple, and it does not offer manyvarieties or difference from the other temple of that period.
Legends has that the temple is ancient temple which dates back to Dwapara yuga. There was a powerful person Bheem second among the Pandavas. Once at the time of his exile he was climbing the mountain ranges of Himalayas. Suddenly on his way a divine voice came from the sky that tells him if he wished to be recognized for generations, he should erect a shiva temple with full devotion. He was a true shiva devotee, so he erected a temple for Lord Shiva from the mountain in that place.
Bheema is a giant and powerful being and he has the power of 100 elephants. He used his mace and breaks the mountain. From there the ganga flows and the water from ganga flowed and formed a lake which is known as Bhimtal lake. Later on, he consecrates Shiva Lingam here.

You can visit this temple throughout the year. this place has a pleasant weather and atmosphere whole year. but the best time to visit Bhimeshwar Mahadev temple is during summer and monsoon seasons. In summer, the temperature of this place is very cool. This place is also a very popular summer vacation destination. Bhimtal temperature varies from 15 degrees to 29 degrees. In monsoon season the entire area is covered with greenery and gives nature lovers an amazing scenic view.
Trekking and hiking are also very famous in this place but be careful during winter and monsoon seasons as trekking and hiking is quite difficult at this period of time.
This temple is also by devotees on the festival of Shivratri and Shravan mass.
