Budha Kedar is a beautiful and holy place which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place is located in Tehri district in Garhwal in Uttarakhand state.
It is about 60 km from the road of New Tehri and is well known for its Budha Kedar temple. This place gives an opportunity to the visitors to visit and watch the lives of the hill folks as this place is dotted with numerous huts and terraced fields of cultivation amidst mountainous Garhwal Himalayas.
Budha Kedar is also famous as it known as a bird watcher paradise. You can watch a huge amount of colorful mountainous birds in their natural environment. Trekking is also very adventurous and beautiful in this place.
The temple of Budha Kedar is located at the confluence of the river Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga and it is also about 59 km by motorable distance from the New Tehri. It is believed that the legendary Duryodhana of Mahabharata have offered Tarpana here.
According to the legend, during the Mahabharata era, after the battle of Kurukshetra the Pandavas went out to look out for Lord Shiva. On their way, they encountered Rishi Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat. The rishi then sent them to meet an old man who was meditating at the site of the confluence.
When they reached at the confluence, the old man vanished and instead of that a Huge Shiv Linga appeared. Pandavas was asked by Rishi Balkhily to embrace the shiv Linga if they want to free themselves from the sins that they have committed. They did this by leaving their impressions stamped on the Shiv Linga. This shiv Linga is considered as one of the biggest shiv Linga in northern India.

Budha Kedar temple is one of the most beautiful temples. You can visit this temple throughout the year. this temple has pleasant atmosphere throughout the year. but the best time to visit this temple is all over the year except for the monsoon season. In monsoon season there are high chance of heavy rainfall and landslides.
