According to the legend, this area of the Chandrabani temple was once the residence of Maharishi Gautama. Maharishi with his wife Ahalya and daughter Anjani used to live in this place. The Maharishi mediated here for years. Local people also used to worship him.

The other mythology has that Chandrabani is the place where ‘GANGA’ showed herself. According to the Hindu mythology ganga is the daughter of heaven. Therefore, the place was later come to be known as Gautam Kund.
