Daat kali temple is a famous Hindu temple situated in Dehradun and is located around 14 km from main Dehradun city in Saharanpur Road. The Daat kali temple was built on 30th June 1804. This holy place was made during the construction of Dehradun- Saharanpur highway and is the most prominent devi ma temple in Dehradun city.
According to the legend it was believed that the goddess kali once appeared in the dream of an engineer who was working in the project of national highway. In his dream, the kali ma handed him an idol of her and asked him to construct a temple at the site. Then the engineer gave the idol to Mehnat Sukhbir Gusain to establish the temple and names it as Daat Kali temple, where the goddess now resides.
The temple has a large hall which allows the devotes to rest at that place. There is also a perpetual fire that is continuously burning since 1921. Many devotees that worship this temple wait for their turn to offer oil, flour, and ghee to the deity.
Navratri is the festival that is celebrated on a huge scale at the temple. The temple hosts a grand puja at this time, and it is attended by large number of devotees. Bhandara is also organized here, and Prasad is offered to devote, at this time the traffic stops at the highway to avoid chaos.
