History and Mythology of Devi Mandir

The history and mythology of this temple is very popular among the local people as well as tourists. The modern temple is situated near the road, but the ancient temple is situated inside a 12 feet long cave, which is considered as one of the Siddha Peethas. In this temple a Shivalinga is also installed. There is also a small cave near the main temple. Devotees have to go and lay down in that cave for the darshan of ma Durga.
There is a statue of ma Durga in the temple which emerged from the rocks and there is a flame which is always burning inside. Local people also have that many times ma Durga’s vehicle come by to the lion temple and goddess Durga used to return after darshan.

There is also an interesting story that is hidden in the construction of Durga temple.

It is said that the temple was used to be very small in ancient time but was an obstacle between road construction between Duggadda Kotdwar, then a grand temple was constructed by the contractor. People from far away come and take the blessings of the Mata Durga.

This place is also very happening at the times of festivals. Mata Durga is nicely dressed, and the people would visit and worship at this place as well as there is pooja conducted by the priests.

By Train : The nearest railway station to reach the Devi temple is at Kotdwar itself. It is just 1.4 km away from the temple destination. You can take any local transport, or you can reach there by foot as well.

By Air : The nearest airport to reach the temple destination is JOLLY GRANT in Dehradun. It is 104 km away from the temple. You can take a taxi or cab to reach your destination. Local buses are also available from there. Even shared taxis are a good option and relatively cheap one.
