It was believed that there was a poisonous Naga living in the Yamuna Nagar named Kalinag (kaliya), in Vrindavan which was defeated by Lord Krishna. The Kalinag recognized the greatness of Lord Krishna and surrendered. The Lord Krishna ordered Kalinag to leave theYamuna rive and go somewhere else. After this, Kalinag left the Yamuna River and went on to reside in this region of Berinag.
