Basukedar is located in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place is located on the highway to the most divine Dhams Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is located on the way towards Do Dhams.

This temple of Basukedar spreads spiritual vibes with scenic beauty. This temple was built by Pandavas which dates back to 1000 years. This temple is about 5 km away from Chandrapuri village via Augustmuni. The region around this temple is a spiritual heaven for yoga practitioners, travelers, and spiritual seekers. This temple complex has the main Basukedar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and about 25 other smaller temples of various gods and goddesses.

History of Basukedar Temple

When the pandavas went for the search of Lord Shiva they made this divine temple to absolve their sins as they killed numerous people in the war.

This is the place where Pandavas saw lord Shiva in his buffalo form for the very first time and then he disappeared from them to Kedarnath. The village of Basukedar is an ancient route to reach Kedarnath temple. Pilgrims and devotees used this village as the route of their trek to reach kedarnath temple.

The other legends have that, Lord Shiva stays in this place during the night to take a rest on his way back to Kedarnath. Thus, this place is known as Basukedar.

Basukedar temple has meaning in its name. Basu means stay and Kedar means Lord Shiva. Thus, the pilgrims whoever wants to trek to Kedarnath stays here for the night. They take the blessing of Lord Shiva in the Basukedar temple and then start their trek to Kedarnath in the next morning.

But the best time to visit Basukedar temple is during monsoon and summer season. During monsoon season this place has moderate to a high amount of rainfall which make this place look heavenly with its greenery by bringing freshness elsewhere. The time around July to September is very refreshing and enjoyable.

In the summer season from April to June it has cool breeze and nice temperature of 20 degrees to 36 degrees.
