Famous as one of the Panch Kedars, the fourth Kedar “Rudranath’ threw its doors open for the devotees on Tuesday. Following the grand ceremony valves were opened amid chanting of vedic mantras at five early in the morning. Approximately 240 pilgrims did darshan of lord Shiva after the doors opened.
The holy Rudranath temple is located 2286 mts above sea level surrounded by bugyals. The sacred palanquin of Rudranath reached Rudranath temple late in the evening crossing bugyals and icebergs.
The doors were then opened after arti at five in the morning. The chief preist Anil Tiwari did ornamentation of the deity after it. The pilgrims and local devotees present in the temple paid obeisance and made wishes to the God.
Priest Mahendra Prasad Tiwari and Dharmendra Tiwari told deity of Lord Rudranath is worshipped in Gopinath temple in Gopeshwar for seven months of winter and five months in Rudranath temple of summer.
A self help group “Ummedein Group” of Gopeshwar organized a bhandara in the temple premises. The road connectivity is supported till 3 kms distance from Gopeshwar district headquarter on Gopeshwar – Ukhimath route, the pilgrims have to cover a 19 km steep trek to reach the temple.
