Naib Rawal (assistant priest) has been appointed in Badrinath Dham. Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee has selected 22-year-old B Sankaran Namboodiri of the province of Kerala to become Naib Rawal of Badrinath.
In year 2014, Rawal Keshav Namboodiri of Badrinath was removed from the post of Rawal in the case of molestation of woman and on May 2, 2014, Naib Rawal Ishwari Prasad Namboodir was appointed as Rawal in the Narsingh Temple at Joshimath.
Naib Rawal’s post has been vacant for three years. This year, BKTC decided to appoint Naib Rawal. BKTC CEO BD Singh said that B Sankaran Namboodiri has been made Naib Rawal.
He said that if for some reason Rawal Badrinath is unable to worship in the yatra season, then Naib Rawal cooperates with him and do the worship. Rawal’s tenure is at least five years, after which Nab Rawal’s appointment is made to Rawal.
In the Badrinath Dham, the right to worship Lord Narayana has been given to the Rawals. Here the Namboodari Pad Brahmins of the province of Kerala are the officials to worship God. It is believed that Nambudari Pada Brahman are the descendents of Adi Guru Shankaracharya.
