Badrinath Highway shuts after heavy snowfall

After the incessant heavy snowfall the authorities were forced to close the Badrinath Highway for safety of travellers.

According to officials the inclement weather conditions and heavy snowfall has badly affected the restoration work of Kedarnath valley. Sunday’s snowfall blocked traffic in Lokhandi region of Chakrata, 86 km from here, officials added.

Landslides are also reported at some places on the Rishikesh-Badrinath road near Khadchadha, Lambagad owing to the dipped temperature leading to continuous snowfall. While Gaursaun, Vedni Bugyal, Roopkund, Rudranath and Kuari Pass received light snowfall.

The famous Char Dham Yatra is also hit by the recent adverse weather conditions of the region which include : Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. Badrinath shrine is located at a height of 10,240 feet above sea level and the route to the temple is one of the most fascinating due to the hilly terrain and numerous mountain cliffs.

The meteorological department has predicted more snowfall in the next few days and then the commencement of summers after it.
