Continuous rainfall disrupt Chardham Yatra

The Chardham yatra in Uttarakhand is currently halted due to continuous rainfall and landslides. Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Yamunotri highways are blocked due to landslides and garbage, while Gangotri is running smoothly at the moment. In Chamoli district many house were washed away and many were filled up by debris. In Dehradun and Mussoorie, the weather is delightful after the whole night raining.

Badrinath highway blocked

Due to continuous rainfall, the Badrinath highway was blocked near Lambagad. Badrinath Dham has been halted on Saturday due to heavy rains in the Lambagad landslide area on the Badrinath highway. At five o’clock in the evening, the water level of Lambagad rose and debris and boulder from the landslide area also hit the highway, preventing around 500 pilgrims going to Badrinath Dham at Govindghat, Pandukeshwar, and Joshimath, while about one hundred pilgrims returning from Badrinath has been detained at Badrinath itself.

Kedarnath Route blocked near Bansbara

The Bansbara landslide zone on the Gaurikund highway in Kedarnath has also become a canker for the Kedarnath yatra. Boulder and debris continued to fall from the hill here for the third consecutive day, due to which traffic came to a standstill. On the instructions of the administration, traffic has been diverted by NH on the Ganganagar-Basukedar-Guptkashi motorway, but the situation here has also been pathetic.

The construction of the All-Weather Road project on the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund highway in Bansbara, about 200 meters in NH, is causing trouble for the passengers. For the last three days, traffic on the highway has come to a standstill due to the landslides caused by the hill. Due to this problem, there is no direct contact from Guptakashi of Kedarghati to Gaurikund and Ukhimath area beyond Chandrapuri. There has not been sufficient supply of newspapers, milk, vegetables, and other daily use items for three days.

Yamunotri Highway was also impasses due to heavy rainfall

The Yamunotri highway was disrupted by rains on Saturday afternoon. A taxi filled with passengers got stuck in the middle of the landslide in the Ojri-Dabarkot due to slide zone of this route. A sudden landslide occurred in front of the taxi crossing the 300-meter-long section, but the landslide also occurred in the rear of the slide zone before the driver returned. Due to this, the taxi filled with passengers got stuck in the middle of the slide zone. However, according to the administration, there is no danger to the passengers as this part is safe. As soon as the road is blocked, NH personnel present on the spot has started the work of opening the highway. The debris is being removed to safely evacuate the taxi and all the passengers in it.

Restoration work of Chardham Route is in Progress

Due to incessant rains on the Chardham Yatra route, due to falling debris and boulders, the passengers are facing a lot of trouble. While on the one hand, the rain is not taking the name of reducing the trouble, on the other hand, the administration is constantly working to smooth the journey on its behalf. Team of BRO and national highway started the work of restoration and routes were smooth going after the clearance.
