This year, along with Char Dham Yatra registration, pilgrims heading for the Char Dham Yatra will also be required to submit a self-certification letter (declaration form). The form will include details about the accommodation and food arrangements for passengers traveling in the vehicle. If this form is not submitted, vehicles will be halted at Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at check posts, and they will be sent back. This new system is being implemented by the Traffic Directorate.
The Char Dham Yatra for 2025 will begin on April 30. Last year, over 47 Lakhs pilgrims visited the 4 Dhams. As a result, the police and administration had to make significant efforts for crowd control. While registration was made mandatory last year, this time, the administration is also making the declaration form a requirement for all pilgrims.
Char Dham Nodal Officer, SP Lokjeet Singh, explained that the form will include full details about the pilgrim’s accommodation, food, and other arrangements. This information will be linked to the vehicle’s registration number, whether the vehicle is private or commercial.
Additionally, 30 ANPR cameras will be installed along the pilgrimage route, and their monitoring will be handled by the Dehradun control room. These AI-based cameras will capture the details of vehicles that do not have the declaration form. Such vehicles will be stopped at the next check post and sent back.
This initiative aims to enhance safety and streamline the management of the large crowds expected during the pilgrimage season.
