The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), State Program Management Group – Uttarakhand (SPMG-UK) and Indorma Charitable Trust (ICT) have signed a tripartite agreement for the renovation and development of the Ghat at Badrinath and Ghats and Crematoria at Gangotri at a total cost of Rs.26.64 crore.   The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The MoU was signed by Executive Director, NMCG, Ashok Kumar Singh, Director, Indorama Industries, Rajeev Khsetrapal and Trust Member of Indorama Charitable Trust, and Project Director SPMC, Uday Raj Singh Govt. of India.

Bathing Ghats & Crematorium will be developed at Gangotri & Badrinath Dham

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been made by WAPCOS, a GOI enterprise. The project is expected to start by March 2020 and likely to complete until June 2020. The agreement is effective for a total duration of 07 years i.e. till 2027. The following activities will be carried out under the project:  

  1. Construction of New Bathing Ghats and Crematoria at Badrinath & Gangotri Dham.
  2. Reconstruction and Development of existing Ghats & Crematoria.
  3. Providing public facilities on Ghats.
  4. Protection work near River Banks
  5. Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the Ghats for 5 years.

 Development Work to be done at Badrinath Dham

Bathing Ghat at Badrinath is situated at the bank of river Alaknanda. With the help of locals, the sites for Ghats were identified. The total area to be developed at Badrinath Ghat is approx. 2100 sq. m. The total cost of this project will be Rs.10.31 crores. The operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the Ghat will be for 05 years. The following development work will be carried out at Badrinath Dham: Construction of Changing Rooms at Ghats, Toilet with Bio-Digester and Reed Bed, Chhatri, Platform, Signages, Railings, etc. The construction and Development of the Ghat will be completed in 15 Months.

Development Work to be done at Gangotri Dham

Bathing Ghat at Gangotri is situated at the bank of river Bhagirathi. One Bathing Ghat and One Crematorium will be developed at Gangotri Dham. The total area to be developed at Gangotri Ghat is approx. 2200 sq. m. The total cost of this project will be Rs.16.02 crore. The following development work will be carried out at Gangotri Dham: Construction of Changing Rooms at Ghats, IWC, Toilet with Bio-Digester and Reed Bed, Chhatri, Platform, Signages, Railings, Solar Lights, etc. The construction and Development of the Ghat will be completed in 15 Months.
