Har Ki Pauri Haridwar

One of the most revered Ghats in Haridwar and all of India, Har-Ki-Pauri is frequented by many pilgrims and tourists who come to pray and seek the blessings of the Holy Ganga. On the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar, the Indian state of Uttarakhand, is home to the well-known ghat of Har Ki Pauri. The main landmark of the holy city of Haridwar is this venerated location. Lord Shiva, the god according to the Shaivite school of Hinduism, is referred to as "Har," "ki," and "pauri," respectively.

It is the location where the Ganga River, which flows through the Himalayas, first reaches the plain and where anyone who bathes in the Ganga can atone for all of their sins. According to the local legend, a footprint left by Lord Vishnu on a stone is still visible today. It is because of this that some think Lord Shiva paid a visit to Har ki Pauri during the Vedic era. This sacred Ghat was built by King Vikramaditya in honour of his brother Bhartrihari, who is thought to have travelled to Haridwar to meditate on the banks of the Ganga. It is a beautiful sight to behold with a plethora of temples at the river’s edge and golden hues of floral diyas floating in the river. A once-in-a-lifetime event, mantra and prayer chanting with sages in meditation radiates spiritual energy. Gongs in the backdrop transport one to a completely new universe.

History

King Vikramaditya is credited with building the sacred ghat, which is more than two hundred years old. In honour of Bharati, the brother of King Vikramaditya, who meditated on these banks of the Ganges, Har Ki Pauri was constructed. The precise location of the morning and evening aartis is known as “Brahmakund,” where it is thought that the amrit droplets fell. Since Har ki Pauri has become a popular tourist destination, the ghats there have received extensive renovations and additions. Hargyan Singh Katara, a zamindar from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, completed the first extension in 1938, and he completed the second one in 1986.

The Ganga is credited with been transported from heaven to earth by the legendary ruler Bhagirath. According to local lore, Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh – three immortal Gods – were present when Haridwar was blessed.
