Now pilgrims will have to cover shorter distance to travel between Kedarnath & Badrinath. A 902 meters long tunnel in Rudraprayag has finally been cleared. Construction of the tunnel will begin with the opening of the tender in April 2021. A 200-meter-long bridge over the Alaknanda River will also be constructed to connect this tunnel between Rudraprayag-Gaurikund and Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, which will also help the commute between Badrinath & Kedarnath.
A 902 meters tunnel will be constructed on the mountain adjacent to the Jawadi bypass at Jagtoli, the other end of which will be somewhat ahead of the population at Bellani on the Rudraprayag-Chopta-Pokhari route. With the construction of the tunnel, locals and others will get relief from jam on Rudraprayag main market, Kedarnath tiraha and Belani bridge. At the same time, the movement of the villagers of the villages on both sides of the Alaknanda River will also become easy.
Apart from this, pilgrims going to Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham during the Chardham Yatra will not have to take long route via market. Executive Engineer NH Rudraprayag Jitendra Kumar Tripathi says that the construction of 902 meter long tunnel and 200 meter long bridge are involved in the same project. In April, the tender process will be started. This tunnel and bridge will work to connect both the highways, which will make the traffic accessible in the coming days and get rid of the jam completely.
