On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya the doors of the world famous Gangotri Dham opened today at 12.35 pm for six months. The first puja was performed at the inauguration ceremony on the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Friday, the Bhog idol of Mother Ganga was left for Gangotri Dham with a doli yatra from the winter abode at Mukhaba village. The Doli Yatra reached Gangotri in the early hours of Saturday after a night’s rest at the ancient Bhairav temple at Bhairaghati. After which the doors of the Gangotri temple opened at 12.35 in the noon.
Special prayers were offered to the mother Ganga at the Ganga temple in Mukhba on Friday morning. At twelve o’clock in the morning, the idol of mother Saraswati and mother Annapurna were taken out of the temple’s sanctum sanctorum and the idol of mother Saraswati and mother Annapurna were seated in the doli.
About 25 priestly families present in the village bid farewell to the doli yatra of Mother Ganga in the presence of the doli of the Someshwara Devta.
