The heavy rainfall in the hill state paralysed Kedarnath Yatra for nearly three hours today. The heavy showers caused landslide which ended up with traffic jam on the Satpuli-Kanskhet Road in Pauri Garhwal district.
The fresh spell of rain continued from late Friday night till Sat morning giving relief from the incessant heat. About 1,500 pilgrims on their way to Kedarnath were stopped at Sonprayag and Gaurikund for nearly three hours from 7 am to 10 am as a precautionary measure due to the rain. Meanwhile, the yatra continued smoothly to the Gangotri, Yamunotri and Badrinath shrines.
The water entered a number of houses in Bageshwar district while water-logging was reported from Kashipur. The rain triggered landslide blocked Tanakpur-Champawat road for alost three hours at Dhon village.
Pre monsoon-showers rendered respite from the scorching heat to Dehradun, bringing the mercury down to 30.4 degree celcius. Dehradun meteorological department has forecasted heavby rainfall at isolated places, especially in the Kumaon region, during the next 48 hours starting June 21 morning. Rain or thundershowers are likely to continue in Dehradun during the next 24 hours.
On the other side, rain threw light on the carelessness of Dehradun Municipal Corporation with the filth spreading on the roads from it.
