Transit camps will be built at a cost of Rs 15 crore
It is worth mentioning that the Chardham Yatra starts with Haridwar and Rishikesh. For the pilgrims of Chardham yatra, there is no problem to stay, for this, more than 50 guesthouses have been constructed on the Chardham yatra route by GMVN, but there is not enough accommodation in Haridwar and Rishikesh. Pilgrims from abroad have to stay in private hotels & Dharamshala’s in both cities Rishikesh & Haridwar. Many times pilgrims have to take shelter in railway stations and bus stations if they do not get the place. The government has now decided to construct a transit camp equipped with state-of-the-art facilities at Rishikesh costing Rs.15 crore.
Construction work of transit camp will be completed by 2021
According to SS Samant, Senior Research Officer of Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council, 50% of the total expenditure on the construction of transit camp will be borne by THDC and half by Uttarakhand tourism department. DPR of proposed transit camp has also been prepared. Responsibility for the construction of transit camps has been entrusted to BRIDCUL. Construction of transit camps will be completed in two years. Until the construction of the Transit Camp, pilgrims will have to adjust in the current system.
