In fact, the state government wants to develop the newly constructed new Yoganagari railway station in Rishikesh, the gateway to the Chardham Yatra, as a hub for pilgrimage and tourism in Uttarakhand.
State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, who came on inspection of the new railway station in October last month, gave the same indication. According to sources, on the proposal of Chardham heli service, the Ministry of Railways is ready to provide space for helipad at the station.
The state government has proposed the railways to start heli service from the new Yoganagari railway station. To reach Kedarnath Temple, a helipad will be built at the railway station on the lines of the helipad built at Phata. It may be possible to assign the responsibility of helicopter operations to GMVN.
